To Our Members,
Here we go again. Where does time go. I hope everyone is ready for what we have to come.
We will be having our first union meeting on Saturday September 19th. It will be held at AFSCME Council 89 conference center. The time will be 10:00 to 11:30. At this meeting we will be holding nominations for the following offices, President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, 3 executive board members and 1 trustee. Hope you are able to attend. These are your officers that will be representing you for the next 2 years.
We will then hold a meeting October 17th at AFSCME conference center from 10:00 to 11:30 to vote for the offices if needed.
We are planning to start contract negotiations in July of 2010. This will give us a year before our present contract ends. Jemery Small has given Steve and I the go ahead for negoations to begin that early. She seems very enthusiast about this.
The board has discussed how to handle the meetings so we can get each individual group of the support staffs input. We have decided to hold 3 meetings beginning in January to help with this matter.
Meetings will be held as follows. They will be held at AFSCME conference center from 10:00 to 11:30.
January 16th Transportation issues
February 20th Food Service issues
March 20th Maintenance and Custodial issues
All members are urged to attend these meeting but we work only in the areas stated. Please remember this is YOUR contract and all suggestions will be reviewed and discussed. When we have competed all the meetings the information we have will be given to Steve so he can work up what he needs to present to the board. We will then hold a meeting on May 15th and review what we have received. If you are unable to attend any meeting please give your suggestions to any of our officers. Please check your bulletin boards for all of this information which be made available.
Have a good year and please stay involved with our union. We want to fight for what is best for us. The only way this is possible is by sticking together. Remember We fight We win.
Yours in Solidary,
Penny Fink
President
