**Grievances in bold print are still active
During the 2007-2008 school year, WSSD has looked into contracting out some bus routes. This action would have possibly displaced drivers who have served the same bus route for many years. During the summer of 2008, WSSD has decided to not pursue contracting out any of the transportation services for the 2008-2009 school year. Local 2865 has showed the District that the cost of contracting out would be so costly that it would hurt the District. Local 2865 is determined to standby the Support Staff Employees and protect their interests and work enviroment. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Penny Fink.
If you have filed a grievance with Local 2865 about anything, your grievance is being handled. It takes awhile to handle grievances in the proper way. Grievances have been settled between the Local Union and School District. If you have any problem with your work enviroment, please notify a Local Union Steward. They will help you.
We have a Grievance Settled in the First Step that is in Our Favor
We have had a grievance settled in our favor! There was a grievance filed with a concern about an employee not getting paid a shift differential for time worked before their normal shift started. The grievant was going to lose their shift differential for the extra hours that were worked before their normal shift started. This employee was asked by their supervisor to come in and work a few hours extra for a few days. The employee did work the extra hours and then realized that the shift differential was not paid on all the hours worked. The employee contacted a Union Steward who filed the grievance on the employee’s behalf. The grievance was settled at the first step of the grievance procedure. Because of the Union if any employee does not get their shift differential in the future for hours worked before or after a normal shift, the employee can contact a Union Steward and get the situation fixed. Supervisor's can not treat one employee different than another. Once a grievance is filed and settled it applies to all employees equally.
